My Maya

I'm going to take a short break writing about our breeders to write about Maya. We purchased Maya when she was a little kitten and had planned on having her with us for many years as a breeder. She is wonderful in many ways - so many that I have trouble listing them all. She's funny and playful, she's a snuggler and a lover, she's a lap cat and a nap cat...she is constantly by my side (as is Nala - and they are the closest of friends). Sometimes I will have both Nala and Maya on my lap at the same time! She's beautiful, she's floppy, she's everything you could want in a cat! And then right when we thought she was expecting her first litter, we found out the worst news - she had a uterine infection! And we had to have her fixed to make sure the infection was totally removed. We were so glad that we caught it in time to save her - uterine infections can be deadly! But, now we have to part with her and find her a new home - which has been a sad thing for us (we've been postponing it for 2 months now!). She is just over a year old and a bundle of love - she will do well in any household, especially one that wants to love her! Look here for more on her.

Queen Nala

It wasn't too hard for me to decide which of our breeders to talk about next. Nala was making me laugh today - so I thought I'd write about her. She is a total lap cat! If I'm reading (like I was today) and there is not room for her on my lap - she will just jump up anyway...and then look at me like "why do you have a book - this is my seat". Then if I keep reading she lets me know that I'm not paying attention to her by making the sweetest pleas. Finally, when I put the book down, she is happy - and she is never happier than when I'm rubbing her feet. Yep - you read right! She likes her belly rubbed, and her chin, and her head, and her nose - but when I rub her feet she closes her eyes, starts purring even louder - and sometimes even falls asleep. It just makes me laugh because it is so different from any cat I've ever had. It's like I'm giving her a little massage. Anyway, she's pregnant and deserves some foot rubs I suppose :-). Her kittens are due in about 4 weeks - so we are starting to see her get bigger. It's fun!

Big Boy Crispin

I thought it might be fun to do a blog post on each of our breeders. I'm starting with Crispin because we are constantly amazed by this guy! At 9 months he's a whooping 12.5 lbs...and still growing. He is obviously going to be big - add that to his beauty and his great temperament and you have our dream cat. We are thrilled that he is going to be a daddy! Watch for his kittens with Emma, due the beginning of December - they will be gorgeous!

Growing, growing, growing

Cheya's kittens are growing more everyday - and we are starting to be able to tell what we are going to have (though not fully yet). We have one girl that will be a seal tortie and one boy that will be seal - but we can't tell yet whether they will be lynx or what pattern they are (they will be either mitted or colorpoint). They are very sweet kittens and already love being held!

Spoke Too Soon

So, now we have 2 kittens! Cheya's second little guy or gal (again, I haven't looked yet) was born this evening between the hours of 6 and 8...a full 10 hours after the first one. I had heard that a long delay can occur between kittens in rare occasions, but never thought that I would actually experience it! We are now wondering, will there be more?

Update -
And the final count is....two!

First Kitten of the fall!

It is no coincidence that I'm starting this blog on the same day that we are starting our fall run of kittens. During the non-kitten season, there is not too much happening - but things are about to get really exciting around here. It all started this morning - we have been waiting for the last few days for Cheya's kittens to be born and today at 8am she started her contractions. About 40 minutes later we had our first kitten - and about 3 hours later we realized that it would be her only kitten. It is always a surprise to find out how many kittens the girls are going to have. We knew that Cheya wasn't going to have many (she just didn't get that big this time) - but I expected 2 or 3 at least. So we are surprised - but that little guy or gal (haven't looked to see which yet) is going to be the cleanest and best fed kitten around. I can't wait to find out what its color and pattern will be! Cheya's last litter was huge - her boy was over 12 lbs at 9 months old and the girls were in the 9 and 10lb range...so it will be exciting to see how big this one gets with all the extra attention!
